Origins and Background

The origins of the Faculty can be traced back to 1972, when the university introduced courses in Art and Handicrafts under the Basic Subjects group. In 1977, the program was developed into the Department of Handicrafts and Industrial Arts under the Faculty of Science and Technology, offering a Higher Certificate (Associate Degree) in Industrial Arts. In 1980, a four-year Bachelor’s degree program in Industrial Arts was established.

In 1982, two-year continuing Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programs were introduced in Industrial Arts and Electrical-Electronics. Subsequently, an Associate Degree program in Industrial Product Design was developed.

In 1987, the program was further developed into a four-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Industrial Product Design, which was officially launched in 1989 as the first program of its kind in Thailand. In 1996, two-year continuing Bachelor’s degree programs in Industrial Technology were introduced, with specializations in Construction Technology and Architecture.

In 2000, an additional four-year Bachelor’s degree program in Ceramics Technology was introduced, followed by a two-year program in Industrial Management Technology. These developments were designed to respond to the expansion of the industrial sector and government policies, particularly those supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Over the years, the Department of Industrial Arts continuously enhanced its human resources through recruitment and further education, while also improving equipment, facilities, and infrastructure to support teaching and learning in Industrial Technology.

These developments reflect the expansion of academic disciplines within the Department of Industrial Arts, which eventually evolved into a cluster of Industrial Technology programs. This growth aimed to meet workforce demands at both local and national levels, as well as to address the educational needs of local communities. With government support to promote economic development from the community level to national and international levels—particularly through SMEs—and with ongoing technological advancements, the university recognized the need to expand its academic offerings in Industrial Technology across multiple disciplines. Accordingly, the Industrial Technology program cluster was elevated to the Faculty of Industrial Technology Establishment Project on November 18, 2004, in order to broaden educational provision in industrial technology and to support national development.

In 2005, Buriram Rajabhat Institute was officially upgraded to Buriram Rajabhat University. Consequently, the Faculty of Industrial Technology Establishment Project underwent a restructuring of its internal administration, comprising six academic programs: Construction Technology (two-year continuing Bachelor’s degree), Electrical-Electronics Technology (two- year continuing Bachelor’s degree), Industrial Management Technology (two-year continuing Bachelor’s degree), Ceramics Technology (four-year Bachelor’s degree), Architectural Technology (four-year Bachelor’s degree), and Industrial Product Design (four-year Bachelor’s degree).

In 2006, the Faculty of Industrial Technology expanded its academic offerings by introducing two additional programs: Industrial Electrical Technology and Industrial Computer Technology, both as two-year continuing Bachelor’s degree programs, in order to meet the growing demand for technology education.

In 2009, the faculty revised its curricula in accordance with the standards of the Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC), upgrading them to four-year programs. As a result, two new Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programs were developed: Architectural Technology, which admitted its first cohort of students in the 2010 academic year, and Electrical Engineering Technology, which was officially launched in 2011.

In 2013, the faculty further developed five additional programs in line with OHEC standards: Industrial Management Technology, Construction Technology, Ceramics Technology, Industrial Product Design, and Electronic Technology, which was later renamed Communications Electronics.

In 2018, another five programs were introduced: Industrial Management Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Ceramics and Design Technology, Art and Design, and Electronic Engineering Technology.

As of 2023, Assistant Professor Watchara Wachirapatrakul serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technology. The faculty currently offers a comprehensive range of programs, including the following Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programs:

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Programs 1.Ceramics and Design Technology 2.Electronic Engineering Technology 3.Civil Engineering Technology 4.Architectural Technology 5.Electrical Engineering Technology 6.Industrial Management Engineering

Bachelor of Fine Arts Program 1. Art and Design
